I am not joking. If you are a Boomer, an older adult, or the child of an older adult then it is absolutely true, everybody wants you! I have had the pleasure of working in the area of older adult care providing options and solutions for over 20 years but I have never seen as many vendors and professionals trying to get the attention of Boomers and above as I have over the past two years. It is a sign of the times.
It is difficult I would think to be the target of all of this attention. The recipients of the brouhaha could soon find they have an Inbox full of invites, or a snail mail box full of postcard offers, or even find themselves at the receiving end of a really great Newsletter from someone like me. There are free lunches, free dinners, free snacks, free gifts, etc. if the invitee will simply show up and spend some time attending a presentation or workshop.
There are certainly many wonderful people out there providing services and information who do so with the right intent. They also all have a job to do and need to grow their audience in order to stay competitive. My grandmother would have wondered, “What in the Sam Hill is going on?” How in the world can a person minding their own business, maybe thinking a bit about planning for the future whether it be financial, legal, or health care have a clue about who to invest their time with? Who can they trust in a market clambering for their attention? The answer is-Me.
It just doesn’t seem right for me to stand on the sidelines while others are offering free this and free that. I have been in the business of advocating for older adults for such a long time I know a few things worth sharing.
